Speak up!

Today is a special day: it’s International Mother Language Day. First accounced by UNESCO in 1999, it’s a worldwide annual observance to promote peace and multilingualism.

Peace! Multilingualism! This must be my favourite day, closely followed by my birthday and Easter. I love Easter. Apart from the benefits for education, when children are taught in their mother tongue and have a better understanding of the topics, I just love having a day dedicated to language.

So speak up today in your mother tongue! It’s International Mother Language Day. And jot it down in your diary for next year too.
